Covid-19 Update
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, insurers will ask additional questions with regards to symptoms and whether or not you have contracted Covid-19 before providing you with a policy.
This type of insurance is designed to cover you if you are diagnosed with one of the specific listed medical conditions or injuries, critical illness cover is designed to cover you.
There will be specific list of conditions and not all conditions will be covered, the policy may also indicate the severity of the condition before a claim can be made.
All policies will have terms and conditions, none more so than this form of insurance. However, rather than comparing the range of insurance policies on the market, we can do that for you and explain exactly what is and isn’t covered for you.
We will find out exactly what you are looking to cover and highlight the benefits of each policy for you.
Examples of critical illnesses that may be covered:
- stroke
- heart attack
- certain types and stages of cancer
- conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
Multiple policies will also have a level of disability cover as a result of illness or injury.
This level of cover is a one time claim only. Meaning that in the event of you making a claim, the policy will expire.

Critical Illness Cover - Quick Questions
Do you need critical illness cover?
As you may already be aware, if you are unable to work, you may be eligible for state benefits. Employment and Support Allowance is currently between £70 and £100 a week, depending on your specific circumstances.
However, would this be enough to sustain your lifestyle? If you don’t have any savings to fall back on or if you do not have any employee benefit package that would cover you in those circumstances, this level of cover may be for you.
What are the factors involved in the quotation?
This type of insurance is dependent on a number of factors. Very similar to life insurance, this type of cover is all about your health, your lifestyle and your age. For example, the younger you are, the less likely you are to die and therefore the lower the premium.
What isn’t covered with Critical Illness Cover?
As mentioned above, not all serious illnesses may be covered due to the insurers not willing to take on the risk. Similar to Life Insurance, you are not likely to be covered for any health problems you have before taking the cover out. Unless you take this level of cover out alongside life cover, it will not pay out should you die.
